POP SHUVIT | TRICK TIPS

Every beginner skateboarder should learn how to Ollie.

It’s great to be able to pop an Ollie anywhere, anytime. You can learn to Ollie on your skateboard with some practice and good advice.

Your balance might not be perfect when you start skateboarding. Ollie is a good way to get your balance back. Reduce your fear of falling. You can then try a few Ollies standing still, before you start rolling them.

Three ways to steady your skateboard:

  1. You can practice on grass or on carpet
  2. Place your back wheels on a sidewalk crack
  3. Grab a fence or another object and hold on!

Take your board onto your shoulders and get into Ollie stance. Your front foot will be slightly slanted under the bolts. Your back foot will be on the tail, with your ball centered at the edge of the board.

Step 1: Get your skateboard out

You will soon get used to the sensation of your skateboard popping. To feel the sensation, lift your front foot off of the board and press down on your tail with your backfoot. A new skateboard will feel more stable, which will improve your skating skills.

Once you are ready to Ollie, place your back foot on the tail and then pop your skateboard. Once you’re done, get up and start to raise your board. This is done in perfect harmony to your front foot.

Step 2: Move your front foot up

Your front foot will slide towards your nose after you have popped your tail. Timing is the most important part of the Ollie. This trick works only if you can get the timing of ‘popping up your board’ and “sliding your frontfoot up” right.

Step 3: Level the Board and Land

Your skateboard should be levelled at the Ollie’s peak. As the Ollie reaches its peak, grab your board with your back foot. As you drop down, the skateboard should be held to your feet.

It is a good practice to place your bolts over your head. This will help prevent your board breaking down when you go to Ollie down the stairs.

Remember, practice makes perfect! You will improve your skills the more you practice. Keep learning from your mistakes and trying again until you find the right method. You will learn how to Ollie if you don’t quit.
